The project aims to enhance marine biological resources within a circular economy framework, with the goal of obtaining products of interest for the food and industrial sectors, as well as developing new farming techniques and technological processes for the processing of seaweed.
The objectives of VALDIMAR-ER are:
Identify seaweed varieties with an optimal compositional profile for the development of food products or of interest to companies in the agri-food sector.
Identify cultivation techniques that combine bivalve farming with seaweed cultivation, thereby improving the quality of the production environment and increasing the resilience of aquaculture businesses.
Apply physical, chemical, and biological transformations to obtain products of interest for the food and industrial sectors.
Involve private companies in the agri-food supply chain in the formulation of prototypes and in assessing the industrial potential of seaweed extracts and processed products.
Evaluate new business models to propose to companies.
The project will consider various types of seaweed: farmed, removed from internal lagoons, and stranded seagrass residues.
